At the end of the pay period, the payroll page brings your hours together: worked hours, overtime and paid leave for each person, with totals.

Before anything goes out, the readiness check looks for problems. If a period can't be submitted yet, it tells you exactly why, in plain language: the period hasn't ended, an earlier period is still open, or someone is still clocked in.

Here, the earlier period is clean, so it's ready to review and submit.

Submitting locks the hours. Nothing changes after you've reviewed them, and any later change needs a new review.

Then choose a format: a plain spreadsheet, or a file laid out for the payroll provider you already use.

Preview it first, with notes on how to import it, then download. PunchOutPayroll prepares the hours. Your provider runs payroll.

Get payroll-ready hours every pay period

Payroll goes smoothly when hours are clean before the cutoff. Use our payroll cutoff checklist, close open punches with our guide to fixing missed punches, check how overtime is calculated by workweek, and see what goes into the payroll-ready hours file. The employee time clock app feeds approved hours straight in, and you can start with a 14-day trial.

Frequently asked questions

Does PunchOutPayroll run payroll for me?

No. It gets hours and time off ready up to payroll submission. You run payroll with the provider you already use.

What do I get at the end of a pay period?

Approved hours, time off and overtime in a payroll-ready file: a plain CSV, or a file laid out for your payroll provider. Some providers can import it; for others it is a sheet to type hours from. Check a sample in your provider before your first payroll.

How do I know hours are right before payroll?

A readiness check lists anything that would make hours wrong, like a missing clock-out, before you close the period. Once you submit, the period is locked.

Is overtime split out for me?

Yes. Set your daily and weekly overtime rules once, and regular and overtime hours are split automatically.

Can my accountant see the hours?

Yes. Share a submitted pay period with a seven-day link that you can turn off at any time.
